Ontario Data Center Grid Connection Rules (Bill 40)

Protect Ontario by Securing Affordable Energy for Generations Act. Data centers expected ~13% of new electricity demand by 2035. New rules: Minister approval required before grid connection. Threshold under consideration (e.g. >50 MW). Prioritizes high-quality jobs, data sovereignty, domestic hosting. IESO and OEB given 'economic growth' mandate. Consultation Sept–Nov 2025.
